There'll be "Galileo Moments" galore as the RASC Sunshine Coast Astronomy Club presents its fifth annual Astronomy in the Park, Saturday, Aug. 29 from 2 to 11 p.m. at Porpoise Bay Provincial Park. This year's event celebrates International Year of Astronomy 2009 and the 400th anniversary of Galileo's first astronomical revelations.

It's the club's goal to give participants at least one Galileo Moment: a moment of personal discovery by "sharing the sky" through a telescope. The first "star" of the day will be the sun and thanks to a generous donation by Sunshine Coast Community Foundation, you can experience safe solar viewing through special solar telescopes.

Come early for kids' activities, prizes, astronomical displays and more. At dusk there'll be an audio visual presentation in the park amphitheatre with astronomer Bill Burnyeat.

After dark club telescopes will be on hand to view the moon and other night sky treasures. White light destroys night vision, so please bring a "red light" flashlight or red sock or cloth to cover yours.

The festival is a free, family event open to the public and organized by volunteers with the cooperation of Porpoise Bay Provincial Park Please respect all park rules.

Rain date is Sunday, Aug. 30. For more information see www.CoastAstronomy.ca
