Which position are you running for?

Councillor

Live in Sechelt? For how long?

Yes, 25+ years, grew up here in the 60s

If not incumbent, list related municipal committee / civic group experience.

9 years Sechelt Councillor, 2002-11;  Chamber of Commerce Executive; DBWCSP Community Association Executive

What are your priorities if elected?

Long term water solution, climate change and mitigation policies, developing sustainable growth policies.

Should Sechelt facilitate creation of more affordable housing? How?

Yes, if it is seniors care, assisted living or social housing. No, if it is market housing however could request continued greater discounted mortgage rates first time home buyers.

Should Sechelt prepare for climate change? If so how?

Yes, develop and implement climate change and implementation strategies and sustainable growth strategies. We may have to abandon our Sechelt Water Resource Centre because it’s so close to sea level.

Is Sechelt managing growth appropriately?

No, we should have been planning for climate change and climate mitigation policies and sustainable development years ago. Managing growth appropriately should always consider our residents and taxpayers first. Need better coordination between planning and our infrastructure services and capacities.

How would you balance pushback on development with need for housing?

Simple, if we don’t have water or sewer, how does more development make sense? Look at what Bowen Island had to do in January 2022. Google "Building permits onhold until capacity of Snug Cove Wastewater Treatment Plant is upgraded."

What is the greatest infrastructure challenge facing Sechelt?

We must increase and improve our water and sewage capacities to accommodate present citizens and for new growth. We could very possibly see water household use restrictions next summer.

What do you wish we'd asked you?

Would you support a temporary moratorium on new development like what Bowen Island did earlier this year until we have sustainable water and sewer capacities.
