The Gibsons Regatta is making a comeback.

The event, which was popular with Sunshine Coast and Vancouver area sailors for many years, used to run the last weekend of July in conjunction with Sea Cavalcade before it was discontinued about 20 years ago.

The Sunshine Coast Yacht Club, formed by a group of sailors to promote regular yacht racing in Gibsons, has announced plans for a Gibsons Regatta on Saturday, July 27.

The “Gibsons ’Round the Islands Race” will take sailors on a 15-mile circular course around the islands between Gibsons and Bowen Island – Keats, Popham, Pasley, and Worlcombe.

“The very beautiful course should appeal to cruisers and racers alike,” the SCYC said in a release announcing the event.

Entry will be free for SCYC members and $25 per boat for non-members, and the SCYC is advising those who need moorage to register early. There are more details posted at: www.scycsailing.ca
