Kimpton-Cuellar racks up points with TRU

Elphinstone grad Elan Kimpton-Cuellar got some more court time with the Thompson Rivers University (TRU) WolfPack as they opened up 2020 with a big win over the visiting Mount Royal University Cougars on Jan. 3.

Kimpton-Cuellar, from Roberts Creek, a 6-5 forward, was recruited by TRU last spring before he graduated from Elphi.

Kimpton-Cuellar racked up two defensive rebounds and a point in almost six minutes of play leading to TRU’s 102-73 victory.

He also played five minutes in TRU’s Jan. 4 game against Mount Royal, which was also a win, but closer at 96-63.

Kimpton-Cuellar has five points in seven games so far as a first-year player with TRU, and after the second game against Mount Royal the TRU athletic department said the play of Kimpton-Cuellar and his fellow rookies “showed the fans a look into the future of the TRU program, which appears to be bright based on their performance.”

The two wins over Mount Royal give the WolfPack an 8-3 record on the season.
