Roberts Creek mixed martial arts athlete Julia Budd successfully defended her Bellator Featherweight World Title last Friday, with a decision two minutes and 14 seconds into the first round.

Budd dropped opponent Olga Rubin with a knee to the body after a flurry of kicks and punches, prompting referee Jason Herzog to end the fight at the sold-out Winstar World Casino & Resort in Thurskville, Okla. The bout was the evening’s headliner.

The 36-year-old hasn’t lost a match in seven years. Budd’s 11-fight winning streak gives her the most consecutive title defence wins in Bellator, tied with Illima-Lei Macfarlane.

After the win, Budd took to social media to thank her fans, friends, Bellator and her teammates at Gibson MMA where she trains in Port Moody. “I prayed that this performance would be about me breaking down and smashing the limitations I have created and I feel like I did just that,” she said.
