In a thrilling final, Grade 8 Elphinstone wrestler Alice Clement came from behind late in the match to beat a Grade 11 student from Windsor Secondary School to take first place at the Vancouver Sea-to-Sky Zone Championships on Feb. 7.

Eilis Mackenzie, also from Elphinstone, was seeded number one but lost a heartbreaker in the finals.

Both secured a spot at the BC Senior High School championships in Langley.

Other athletes from the Coast who qualified for provincials were Brooke Harapnuck from Chatelech, Sam Solis De Ovando, Alana Krinapai and Lia Trent from Elphinstone.

Two notable athletes from the Coast, Grade 9 Hayden Van Der Stelt from Elphinstone and Atticus Erlenbusch from Chatelelech, wrestled some of their best matches, narrowly missing provincials.

The combined efforts were enough for Elphinstone Secondary to tie Kitsilano Secondary School at 28 points for the zone banner, but on criteria Kitsilano pushed ahead to take first.
