This week the District of Sechelt submitted its community forest license application to the Ministry of Forests, over the objection of many citizens' groups and other municipal governments.

It's been a few weeks now since we learned that a recreation referendum is coming in June. Since I hold recreation so dearly to my heart, I thought I'd present a few thoughts on the subject this week.

The picture on our front page this week tells a tragic story. Sunshine Coast RCMP members and the community came together on Thursday to remember four RCMP members who were killed in the line of duty in a violent shooting in Alberta last week.

Although Powell River has been designated the cultural capital of Canada, I can't believe the lower Sunshine Coast can be far behind. As usual this past weekend, there were events galore to attend.

Last week the Gibsons Area Community Centre Society (GACCS) held two successful open houses in Gibsons. The society unveiled plans for a new community centre. The proposed location is in an area of land in Brothers Park and the Field of Dreams.
