Editor: There are ominous shadows lurking over Gibsons' horizon: the possible incinerator location(s) nearby; the SCRD tax increases; the imagined effects of the proposed George hotel complex; and the subversion of proper behaviour at council meeting

The following letter was sent to Gibsons council and copied to Coast Reporter Dear Mayor Rowe and council: I commend you for conducting a respectful and orderly meeting last night (March 25) regarding theGeorge proposal.

Editor: In 1959 I sat on a committee struck to study the relocation of St. Mary's Hospital from Pender Harbour to a more central location.

Editor: Thank you Coast Reporter for your ongoing coverage of the George issue, and thank you Coun. Johnson and Bouman for thinking about the future of our town. I live in a small house on a small street in Gibsons.

Editor: The BC Ferry Coalition (BCFC) thanks Doug Hockley for raising the important and confusing issue of federal funding for BC Ferries.

The following letter was sent to MP John Weston and copied to Coast Reporter. As a citizen in your constituency and a proud Canadian elector, I am appalled by the proposed changes to the Election Act.

Editor: I quite understand Mark Durland's plea for a road or bridge to the mainland (Coast Reporter letters, March 28). Of course, nothing is impossible engineering wise, but if one starts thinking about cost, we have to retreat into fantasyland.

Editor: It is unfortunate that there is a complete lack of compromise on The George. There is considerable finger pointing, name calling, and vehemence over this, but not a shred of flexibility.

Editor: Please add my name to the list of Sunshine Coast citizens who strongly object to changing the name of St. Mary's Hospital. I respect and appreciate the generous gift the Sechelt Indian Band made to the hospital society in 1959.

Editor: In response to Mark Durland of Garden Bay (Coast Reporter letters, March 28), who wants a bridge to the Lower Mainland and can't figure out why we wouldn't want it. It comes down to this.
