Once again we are now down to Stage 3 water restrictions.
It seems new subdivisions are still permitted, contracted and built before any action to increase our water supply from Chapman Lake.
A very large, new subdivision that comes to mind is the area on the upper end of Sullivan Road, above Leek Road, Roberts Creek (just below where the Lions Club had their Christmas tree farm). This huge area has been cleared, roads built, culverts in and pipework done. This subdivision goes all the way along towards Gibsons to the top of Pine Road. There is no signage or maps with any information of numbers of lots or, sizes and what companies are involved with this large area. Each lot (maybe more than 100 there) will have a spectacular view. Each dwelling will need water! Possibly big houses with many taps and toilets.
This is one subdivision that I know of as well as the plans for Gospel Rock with its 200 to 300 households. So where will the water come from to service all these?
I’m sure up and down the Coast there are many more subdivisions being built and planned. These new residences all need water and all will be using our narrow winding Highway 101.
