Letters: Extend bike lane for a start

Editor:

In regards to a recent comment in the Coast Reporter on sustainable travel, tourism and cycling lanes (also sent to council):  It would seem to me that a really cost-effective start for this would be to extend the bike lane that leads to Coast Gravity Park further on to the Porpoise Bay Provincial Park. The stretch is not much further, in most spots there is already much space for this on the shoulder and it could be one small leg completed in a series of updates that could eventually connect the Coast. I have seen hundreds (sometimes all at once) of cyclists in the park, RV campers with bikes who want to get to town and it would be a safer transportation alternative for locals, since there is no bus transit in that area. Recently I witnessed a mother, with a child on the front of her bike, tip into the brambles on the side of the road on their way to the park to avoid cars. Several of us had to pull them out and help them get to the park. Extending the bike lane to Porpoise Bay feels like an easy win-win to me. Thank for listening and I hope this can happen.
