Editor:
Much gratitude to Dr. Menezes and the team who looked after me so very well when I attended the day surgery clinic at Sechelt Hospital on June 20.
I had developed a femoral hernia in my left groin on a trip to London, England in early May. A rich and wonderful visit, but too much lugging of a carry-on suitcase for a small person in their mid-eighties!
Since my return home to the Coast in mid May, I have had prompt and caring care, culminating in my day surgery visit last Friday. I walked through the door of the clinic to find a team of warm, friendly, informative professionals. A regular beehive of efficiency!
I realize that there is a lot about our medical system that needs fixing –– long waiting times, lack of qualified staff –– but it did my heart good to know these caring, dynamic pockets do exist.
I also feel privileged to live in a country where this sort of experience is possible; especially as there is so much medical hardship in a world full of conflict.
