Water is gold

Editor:

While I had my issues with the SCRD on a rezoning matter a few years ago over a gallery next door to me, my husband and I can also give credit where credit is due.

We are writing this because we want to commend Dan and Trevor at the waterworks department of the SCRD for their very quick and helpful service to us. We moved to West Sechelt nine months ago and have acreage. Not knowing our property in such a short time, we thought we had a natural spring; well, it turns out there was a water leak. We phoned the SCRD for help and within a day they installed the green box system for water meters that will soon be coming to the District of Sechelt. They plowed out the overgrown weeds, located the water main, installed the box and allowed us easy access to the water main. We were able to turn the water on and off with the greatest ease to do the job we so seriously had to do. I appreciate people will rebut and say this is their job and water meters are just another tax grab. However, what we just experienced was very disturbing – to lose so much water over what we witnessed was a “hairline” fracture in our plastic line.

So kudos to the SCRD water boys and kudos to water meters. In everything in life nothing is free, so yes, we should pay for the precious resource we use and nothing is more important than water. Without water there is no life.
