If the tree wasn't protected under District of Sechelt bylaw 484, 2009 when the subdivision was being developed, why wasn't a platform built outside the development at that time?
We are two people who are very upset about the loss of this nest. We often stopped to watch the eagles from the highway and took photos. The two eagles were a very productive pair. There were two eaglets in 2011 and two in 2012. This tree was topped at a very crucial time, as the eagles are preparing to lay eggs.
If the tree had to be removed, why couldn't it have been topped at the end of this season? Unfortunately, the nest is gone, so now we await the mitigation plan. Hopefully the mitigation plan will be an artificial nest placed not too far from the original nest tree.
