Editor:
The following is an edited version of a letter addressed to MLA Randene Neill and shared with Coast Reporter.
On Sunday, there was another horrific accident at the intersection of Redrooffs Road and Highway 101 in your riding. We understand two people are still clinging to life in the hospital. This critical stretch of highway connecting Sechelt with all points north was closed for hours. The ferries were disrupted, and people were forced to sleep in their cars. This tragedy should never have happened.
A friend was recently involved in a terrifying near miss at the same intersection and we have personally had our own near misses and witnessed many incidents.
I contacted the RCMP, the SCRD, the District of Sechelt and BC’s Ministry of Transportation and Transit. There has been no response from them or your constituency office.
As our elected representative, it is your responsibility to ensure the safety of our community and I expect you to take this very seriously.
People will die if this intersection isn’t fixed as soon as possible.
