Editor:
For 25 years running Gibsons has honoured an outstanding female resident by naming her their "Golden Girl."
According to the 2011 census, Gibsons has 4,182 residents and Sechelt is twice as big with 9,290 residents, yet we have neither a Golden Girl" nor a "Golden Boy."
For shame!
Sechelt is blessed with outstanding male and female residents, yet we choose to ignore them. Surely such neglect should be rectified forthwith.
In order to avoid accusations of reverse sexism, I'm suggesting that Sechelt council should enlist residents' help and choose an annual "Sechelter of Distinction."
The honour need not break the bank or raise taxes. Gibsons' Golden Girls receive a sash, and perhaps "Sechelters of Distinction" could receive an elegant framed certificate that would let them know how much their town appreciates them.
If you feel it's time that Sechelt started honouring its outstanding residents, please let mayor and council know.
