I decided to go to Van-couver recently to experience the "Olympic buzz."

I met a friend in Kits, walked to Granville Island, took the sea bus over and started the day's trek. The weather was great, people friendly and street entertainment enjoyable.

We took a break and sat on the steps, watching the skating and listening to a jazz band at Robin Square. A gentleman sat next to me wearing a Canada sweatshirt. His accent was strong, possibly German, I thought. We talked about the crowds and bustle, both of us commenting we were not used to it, as we were each from small towns. It felt great to talk to at least one visitor from out of town. I turned to him and asked, "where are you from?"

"Sechelt," he replied.

There's just no place like home.
