Editor:
It was with great difficulty that I was able to retain my composure and finish reading your most recent article re: Target Marine (Coast Reporter, Aug. 17).
I have lived on the Coast for more than 40 years and have never been subjected to a single resident's more negative approach to our coastal economy and well-being.
Our latest governments, immediately past and present, have been trying to attract business and industry for the benefit of both the residents and our fragile tax base. Mr. Henderson and his new council have exemplified that wish only to be plagued by resident self-interest.
The local taxpayers have voted to allow Target Marine to continue, several times, by public reviews, petitions, votes and a referendum. All have been in favor of our administration. May I say to Ms. Kuciuk - smell the coffee.
I recall an old tale. A British commander and his large troop of soldiers had been sent to secure the Khyber Pass during skirmishes in India. Progressing upwards to secure the Pass, they encountered the enemy, and then reported back to their superiors saying, "There we were three against a thousand - toughest three we ever fought."
Stories like this remind me of Ms. Kuciuk's current position. Yes, she has fought a courageous battle, but the time has come to admit defeat.
I believe that Ms. Kuciuk needs to move on rather than subject the taxpaying public to the expense of further court challenges.
As a geoscientist, I am constantly concerned for the preservation of our environment worldwide and in particular our Sunshine Coast. However, this unnecessary, ridiculous, self-important vendetta against Target Marine should be halted.
I believe in progress and I think the majority of your readers do by their support for Target Marine - we are not "old moss backs."
