Support for big box

I live on one of the streets directly off Field Road, so this potential development has a fairly direct impact on me. I honestly can't think of a better use of that once cleared, now overgrown, chunk of wasteland that was to become Eco Village than a possible big box store.

I walk my dogs often on those fields and it's for the exercise - it's certainly not for the beauty of the surroundings. It's pretty ugly in there.

Canadian Tire is already at the end of the street. What could be more perfect and just plain, darn sensible than another big box store nearby?

I understand that a number of residents on Field Road have gotten together to fight this, and I completely understand their perspective. The traffic on their street will be significantly greater and this will have a huge impact on these homes and lifestyle. At the same time, we need to look at this from a broader, human perspective.

I imagine the good things this might do for young families and the elderly, and the jobs for people who need them. If the design of the mall is done well and if the selected vendors show environmental and social responsibility, it could be a valuable addition to the Coast.

Yes, some business will be impacted. I operate my own business and change is constant. I often need to adapt my plans. Here on the Coast, because things move so slowly, these business owners will have time to plan and adapt their offerings.

Do we stop development because of a few? I think not.
