Editor:
Thank you for the excellent editorial regarding the Kits Coast Guard Station closing (Coast Reporter, March 1).
I was unaware of the plan to build a $6.6 million Coast Guard station in Newfoundland while Vancouver goes without.
I think it is significant that your editorial appears on the same page as Christine Wood's column headlined "What makes a bully?"
Our federal government certainly seems to be using its majority to bully the citizens of Canada on this and other issues. It is no wonder that children, seeing the power and wealth that too often accrues to grown-up bullies, might be seduced into a belief that being a bully is the way to get on in the world.
The world is in the grip of a corporate ideology that uses its power to subvert democracy and oppress ordinary people all over the planet through war and economic exploitation. Movements like Occupy and Idle No More are standing up to the bullies.
Parents who support or take part in these movements are setting a good anti-bullying example for their children.
