Re: New deal for Gibsons Recycling (Coast Reporter, Aug. 10).
Though it has been a long journey getting this contract finalized, it must be noted that many worked very hard to get this completed over several months and it was not done "by the seat of our pants."
And though we feel that the funding is not adequate to provide a service level that the public wants and to cover the costs, the fact remains that we are on the way and, as I said in the interview, "Barb and I feel this is a great opportunity to work collaboratively with the Sunshine Coast Regional District and Town of Gibsons staff and we view the glass as half full."
Some points to note: Gibsons is the first community in B.C. to have a functioning operational resource recovery centre; and therefore, we see our role as being part of a bigger team and working in a collaborative way with the regional staff, which will help create this type of facility in Pender Harbour and Sechelt.
As a community, we cannot be more sustainable nor get to zero waste if we are not all pulling on the same rope in the same direction.
