Your newspaper's outline of The George's "economic benefits" summary makes for interesting reading.

According to John Gleeson's article, The George Hotel estimates incurring annual costs of $5.2 million for wages and $1 million for taxes, for an annual total of $6.2 million. With all 96 rooms were rented for 365 days per year, it would require that each of those rooms generate an income of $176.94 every day of the year for years, just to cover local taxes and labour costs.

Furthermore, the numbers published in the article predict 32,000 visitors per year and suggest that each one of these visitors will spend an average of an additional $246.87 per day in Gibsons, during each day of their stay.

If correct, these are rather optimistic estimates. I sincerely hope the Town decision-makers take a careful look at them prior to signing us up.
