Previous council did not measure up

As a Sechelt resident who has witnessed numerous council meetings over the last six years and been a supporter of a more dynamic, progressive council to lead our community, I find it hard to believe that Keith Thirkell is claiming credit for recent activity at the District of Sechelt in his letter "Give credit where credit is due" (Coast Reporter, May 11.)

While previous councils initiated some of the initiatives currently being completed by this council, what people need to remember is the dysfunctional way in which the last council, including Thirkell, operated. Their approach was to create repeated barriers to ensure little, if anything, happened. Only the most relentless proponent managed to persevere against all odds and get through the bureaucracy and make something happen.

The approach of the last council was not helping to make Sechelt a better place to live it was strangling this community.
