Editor:
Recently my little Largo Road neighbourhood had a barbecue with several themes related to disaster preparation, fire protection, tool sharing, flowers in the ditches and improvements to our local trail. The neighbourhood was defined by the fire corridor ranging from the waterfront homes to the highway on the east side of Roberts Creek. In all, we are talking about 29 homes that were invited.
A survey was sent out to gather both contact information and available resources should a disaster happen, because it occurred to me: what if our fire department resources were already deployed elsewhere, what would we do to protect ourselves?
Everyone was provided with disaster planning documents from the province and Sunshine Coast Regional District as well as helpful links.
The bottom line is that this was a great event for us, and we would like to share this with you. Should you need any questions answered on how you too can host a community barbecue in your neighbourhood, give me a call at 604-886-9899 and I'll be happy to share what we have put together in more detail. Good luck and keep together.
