I attended the open house announcing the George hotel complex and came out with mixed feelings.
I liked several points of this proposal, but also aspects that made me apprehensive. Building a convention center, extending the seawall and building new moorage are fabulous ideas. Building a very large complex that is not harmonious with its surroundings and out of compliance with the Town's official community plan, right over our aquifer, is disquieting. Given the enormous, long-term impact this proposal could have on the Town of Gibsons - both positive and negative -I think we need to ask probing questions and start an informed discussion.
This is why I felt so let down by your paper's premature embrace of this proposal. Simply put, there are too many questions that need to be answered at this point. This community needs your critical reporting to help clarify our thoughts about this proposal and make an informed decision, not the hasty endorsement you have given it.
