Letters: Stick it to the sunfish!

John Dafoe holds up a pumpkinseed sunfish caught in Trout Lake on June 22. Fishers, scientists and researchers are raising their concerns about the invasive species' impact on the native stickleback population.

Editor:

As regular walkers, my wife and I enjoy sneaking up on Kitchen Creek at Coopers Green to catch a glimpse of the local stickleback population.

We had feared they were all wiped out last year when the creek’s lagoon dried up. Checking this spring we were delighted to see stickleback schools making their way around the lagoon. A heron would often be waiting for those that would swim past.

Few seem to realize the vast amount of life in the lagoon. Even a snake that swims under water at times.

The development above and running through Kitchen Creek should be added to the invasive list along with the sunfish.

Thanks to all those doing what they can to save the Trout Lake sticklebacks.
