Given Mr. Birnie’s lavish praise for dubious accomplishments it wouldn’t surprise me if he also credits Mr. Henderson for saving us from aliens and inventing the pumpkin.
Water supply is the responsibility of the SCRD although a respectful team approach is beneficial. Mr. Henderson is hardly a team player when criticizing the SCRD and his own DOS representative’s vote to advance the shíshálh Nation’s efforts to address our water issue.
His actions during other water supply discussions resulted in censure by the SCRD for “conduct unbecoming” where it was requested that he be removed from any SCRD board or committee for the remainder of his term. This is the opposite of helpful. He does however deserve credit for hypocrisy by raising flags about a proposed biosolids facility above the Nation’s proposed reservoir while recently suggesting we re-open investigation into the Dusty Road well site downhill from the dump and deemed unsuitable.
We have a ferry advisory committee that deserves the credit for doing the heavy lifting and advancing serious concerns regarding that broken essential service, not John Henderson. Our inadequate highway is the responsibility of MOTI. I applaud his efforts to raise these concerns with the appropriate bodies however complaining and blaming alone does not equate to delivering, and instead often hinders progress. It’s curious that his suggestions are rarely acted on.
Mr. Henderson can be credited for attempting to appear as representing the needs of the wider community as opposed to just certain business interests despite a track record that tells a very different story. This is his second term in office. If he was actually advancing solutions, we’d have a more a reliable ferry service, a safer highway, and my tomato plants wouldn’t have died again from lack of water.
