Letter: What can be done about housing with Sechelt's new zoning bylaw?

'That said, a number of community members, including seniors have basically been put on the streets as of June 1 with more to come. I’m very unclear as to why, with all this zoning and STR input the last few months, why permits have not been allowed for RVs to be parked, or zoning for tiny houses permitted with in the town’s boundaries.'

Editor:

I would like to applaud the letter (May 27) that the West Sechelt Community Association submitted on behalf of the community. The two District of Sechelt meetings I attended left me stunned by the amount of information I did not get from the meetings. Many specific questions were answered but, on the whole, general changes in zoning affecting neighbourhoods was not addressed.

I wrote the district after the first meeting and asked if anything had been done regarding TUPs in the area to help with the immediate housing disaster we are in.

My reply was from Andrew Allen, stating that “TUP provisions are outlined in the OCP and there are no plans to change the provisions at this time.”

That said, a number of community members, including seniors have basically been put on the streets as of June 1 with more to come. I’m very unclear as to why, with all this zoning and STR input the last few months, why permits have not been allowed for RVs to be parked, or zoning for tiny houses permitted with in the town’s boundaries.

Our sense of community is being challenged daily by the NIMBY attitude and not addressing what CAN be done temporarily. It becomes tiresome to be told time after time...that’s not our department. These are our neighbours.
