Letter: Buses need to be part of our highway system

'The private sector has given up on providing bus service all across Canada. It is time for the public and nonprofit sectors to take up the challenge. It would take the pressure off the ferry system as well as the highway. Buses should be part of the highway system.'

Editor:

In this time of global warming, we need to rethink our transportation system.

How about having several dedicated buses meeting the ferry or even starting in Vancouver: One meanders to Sechelt and stops everywhere. One goes straight to Sechelt and meanders along and through Redrooffs Road. A third goes to Pender Harbour and meets a smaller shuttle that goes around Pender Harbour and then goes to Egmont Road and meet another shuttle. The fourth goes straight to Powell River. These buses could have lots of luggage space and permit pets in carriers. Good air circulation and filtering would be important in these times of COVID. People would only take them if they were safe comfortable and convenient.

The private sector has given up on providing bus service all across Canada. It is time for the public and nonprofit sectors to take up the challenge. It would take the pressure off the ferry system as well as the highway. Buses should be part of the highway system.
