Re: Dogs at GPAG reception
That must have been me and my dog Moose you were referring to in your letter (Coast Reporter, Aug. 17).
Moose is a miniature-Schnauzer miniature-Poodle cross, weighing in at about 12 to 14 pounds.
I am sorry we made you so miserable. I asked several times if it was OK to bring him, and was reassured that he was not only welcome, but 'welcome'. I never noticed him running around the place 'like it was in a park', because he doesn't do that even in a park! I did notice him shyly approaching people who seemed delighted with him, and who commented on his great manners, his friendly reserve, and his sweetness. He seemed to lift the spirits of a few people sitting alone, in fact.
I'm sorry you didn't approach Moose's caregiver, me, directly, about your concerns. I would have left with him right away. I'm sorry you feel your only choice is to never attend those functions again, and that you felt so annoyed at my ignorance - annoyed enough to not support GPAG anymore. I'm sorry you won't be displaying your artwork next year.
My dog recently suffered the death of the creature on earth he trusted most, his lovely old black Labrador Retriever buddy. He's lost a few human friends along the way, too, recently, and has moved several times this year. Right now it is hard for him to be alone because of all these upheavals.
I will do my best to compensate GPAG for the loss of your donation and support. Please send them an estimate and I'll check with them on it, then do what I can to square it up with them financially.
