Editor:
Hooray the fire ban is on! Oh oh, I smell smoke. Follow my nose to a neighbour on the beach with a smoky fire.
I say, “There’s a fire ban.”
J says, “Oh I didn’t know.”
I say, “There should be a posting on our community board; there was an article in the Coast Reporter.”
Younger one says, “Online SCRD says campfires allowed.”
I say, “Crazy, eh? Because smoke is smoke and no one is camping. I’m allergic to smoke and others in the neighbourhood have asthma. The smoke travels up the hill into my house.”
J says, “Thanks, I appreciate you telling me.” I say, “Thanks for putting out your fire.” And they rake it apart.
To whoever has the power to update the fire ban to exterminate campfires, beach fires, any fires, please do so ASAP. Then post the ban as widely as possible.
Thank you SCRD for your earlier hand-delivered sewage notice.
Thank you shíshálh Nation for not slash burning the area in town; instead demonstrating wood chipping works.
