May 1, 2020. The day democracy died in Canada.
On this day, Prime Minister Trudeau and the Liberal government announced a ban on military-grade assault weapons. Whether one agrees with this ban or not, the process for putting this ban in place is terrifying. Not only is it an attack on legal gun owners, not only does it do nothing to curb the problem of illegal weapons in Canada, it does not respect the Canadian democratic process. This ban was put into place without Parliament being consulted. What right does the Liberal government, what right does Justin Trudeau have to put this ban in place without due democratic process? If this is done without parliamentary approval, what will Justin Trudeau and the Liberals do next to defy democracy in Canada?
