The following letter was sent to Sechelt mayor and council and copied to Coast Reporter for publication.
Why haven't the people living west of Shorncliffe, Barnacle and Cowrie not been consulted of this one-way street venture (except through Coast Reporter)?
We live near Chatelech Secondary School, in one of 42 units, which means 42 cars alone, plus all the school traffic, buses and cars as well as new developments going up. So we west of Shorncliffe are being punished, having to go "round and round" so to speak, to our destinations.
From Barnacle we are supposed to turn right on Shorncliffe, and then make a left turn on a busy highway (there is no light), which is dangerous, besides having to wait five to 10 minutes for an opening.
The other route is to make a left on Shorncliffe, off Barnacle and then right into the library grounds to get to the downtown area, or turn left on Ocean, right on Dolphin, go up to the Wharf light and then right and right again on Cowrie (finally downtown).
How about the BMO bank - only one way into their parking lot and that is from Cowrie into the lane, which is only one way! So getting from point A to B will open up a whole new raft of problems, as it wouldn't take long for the library to put up a sign saying "librarytraffic only."
The farmers' market or any such venture should not be taking up any part of a thoroughfare, blocking traffic - again to the west. What's wrong with having it on the school property?
