When reading Susan Fletcher’s letter (“Return to normal now,” May 1), we were dismayed to see the source of her information. The press conference held by these “doctors,” and the misleading, misguided and self-serving information they disseminated, has been widely criticized by those who actually know what they are talking about.
On April 27, The American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) and the American Academy of Emergency Medicine (AAEM) released a joint statement regarding this press conference, stating, “These reckless and untested musings do not speak for medical societies and are inconsistent with current science and epidemiology regarding COVID-19. As owners of local urgent care clinics, it appears these two individuals are releasing biased, non-peer reviewed data to advance their personal financial interests without regard for the public’s health.”
We are all entitled to an opinion regarding the measures being taken to battle this pandemic. Yet, we must be diligent in checking our sources of information before passing it on.
