Congratulations to the students of the Gay-Straight Alliance at Chatelech Secondary School and to the teachers and administration who are supporting this initiative to combat bullying and promote social justice for all people regardless of sexual orientation.

As members of the United Church of Canada, we are also working for an end to discrimination and oppression of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered persons. Last month, the Gay, Lesbian and Supportive Singers (GLASS) Youth Choir from Coquitlam presented a concert at our church with all the proceeds going towards feeding hungry people on the Sunshine Coast.

This talented and caring group of high school and university-age singers described how some schools in their district have prohibited groups like the recently formed Rainbow Brigade at Chat. We commend you and are grateful for your efforts to create a more just and caring community in your school and on the Sunshine Coast.
