A significant part of our community is opposed to the unprecedented secretive policy meetings, which Sechelt conducts. One of the senior councillors, Mike Shanks, has openly questioned the ethics of this approach. Without full transparency, our local government operates more like an oligarchy than a democracy.

Sechelt has been the focal point for public demonstrations protesting the actions of the Sunshine Coast Community Forest. Numerous people were arrested this summer.

MLA Nicholas Simons, has called for a comprehensive land use policy. By supporting this initiative, Mayor John Henderson could help to eliminate on-going conflict between the logging industry and conservationists.

Randy Stoyko 's recent resignation brings to nine the number of staff members who have chosen to leave the District of Sechelt since the last election. Is this merely coincidence? Perhaps, but it certainly doesn't help our town's reputation.

Henderson rightfully encourages citizens to be positive. He says the greater majority of residents are very happy with Sechelt. I love Sechelt and believe in the sustainability of small communities. The mayor's view that without accelerated development Sechelt will "wither and die" is a negative and unfounded opinion.

Henderson refuses to read the writing on the wall. By taking into account the views of others, he has it within his power to improve Sechelt's image. I agree with him that we should be putting our best foot forward, but the question is which foot should it be?
