After January's devastating storm, the Coast took a mighty beating and the damage done was quite severe. Lovely little Chaster Park in Elphinstone was turned into a rubble heap due to the logs, stumps and dead wood that was thrown over the breakwater.
That was four months ago. Our popular beach park used as a playground and walking venue was unusable all those months. When I contacted the Sunshine Coast Regional District and asked them what took them so long to do something about it, I was told that a repair job was imminent. Indeed some work was done, but it was a mere token effort. The rotten logs and stumps were shoved to the side and the deadwood was raked into a heap and onto the breakwater and left there. It's still an atrocious mess that bears closer resemblance to a landfill than a park. It's a bit like sweeping the floor and hiding the dirt under the rug and in the corners.
This blemish will be remembered by many who come to enjoy our pristine coastline.
