Bullies are unsophisticated

Re: "It's time to banish the bullies" (Coast Reporter, April 16). Excellent commentary. As Cathie mentions, defining 'bullying' is not easy. It ranges from the obvious physical to the insidious psychological attacks, and sometimes a mixture of both.

Excellent commentary. As Cathie mentions, defining 'bullying' is not easy. It ranges from the obvious physical to the insidious psychological attacks, and sometimes a mixture of both. I was glad to see that she acknowledged bullying happens not only between children, but also between adults. Unfortunately, it also happens between parents and their children.

I wonder if those guilty of the more subtle (or not-so-subtle) incidents of bullying are even aware. In some cases, I'm certain this has been learned over a long period of time, perhaps through their own early formative years. Bullying is a link to humankind's more primal, basic instincts. The need to be in charge, to be in control, to feel a sense of power, to somehow feel better about their own sense of self.

If you are being bullied, take comfort in this: if bullies were more astute, they'd realize that such actions only point out their own inadequacies, how little they have progressed from the early human state, and how totally unsophisticated, and uneducated they are.
