Build a better ‘normal’

Letters

Editor:

As B.C. begins to reopen, it is the desire of many British Columbians that we move forward and not back to “normal.” The past few months have given us pause to reflect on what is good and what is needed.

This is a beautiful province with many people who need well-paying jobs, decent, reasonably priced housing, and easy access to local food products. We need the provincial government’s economic recovery plan to create and build upon these priorities.

Earth has also begun to heal during this pause. Now is our opportunity to continue to help this along by speeding up the green economy while creating new, well-paying jobs with purpose and dignity for people who wish for a better world for our children and grandchildren.

The distinctions between rich and poor are always visible, but during COVID-19, we were reminded how all people are the same. Staying home to stay healthy and keep our loved ones safe reached all nations, religions, genders, political and socio-economic states. We are all human beings living and loving on one planet. I hope we have learned to take care of each other and of our home – our community – British Columbia – Canada – Earth.

Please, Premier Horgan, make our people and our communities your priority when choosing how to spend the $1.5 billion economic recovery budget. You hold the future of British Columbia in your hands. Your choices will create our future.
