I would like to congratulate the people of B.C. for their hard work to bring out the best Olympics I have ever seen - in person and on television. The opening ceremonies amazed. Even the commercials were worth watching.
I took my seven-year-old grandson Sasha to his, and my first Olympics. The venues on Robson Street were awesome. As we made our way towards the Olympic flame, the streets displayed wooden eagles, flags and artworks. All we heard were ooohs and aaahs as people of various cultures took in the sights.
I was born in Ukraine and Canada has been my home for over 60 years. Yet I felt proud when Sasha pointed out the Ukrainian flag, flying high amidst other colours of the world.
So, to the organizers, volunteers and our Cana-dian athletes - I'm very proud to be living in Canada.
