I was both sickened and saddened to see a bear trap at the bottom of Frances Road last week; it's no longer there. We certainly have bears in this area. (I hope.) This is a wildlife corridor. I feel we have enough information available to us to live amicably with the bears, and I find it unacceptable that people still not only leave out attractants, put out their garbage in plastic bags as opposed to an animal proof container and - worse - don't recycle (e.g. meat trays, fish cans, salad dressing and dip containers).
Plastics are fatal to bears and other wildlife and, even beyond that, have no place in our landfill.
The Sunshine Coast Regional District has facilities available, as does Gibsons Resource Recovery Centre, to process these items. Shame on those responsible.
As was coined years ago: "If you're not part of the solution, you are part of the problem."
