Driving home along Marine Drive from the ferry last night (Aug. 23), several cars passed me heading the other way. In order to stay in my lane, I had to drive through the blackberry vines reaching onto the roadway. I noticed this is true all the way into Gibsons. The old rule of walking towards traffic when you're a pedestrian is impossible. This road is by no means an exception to the rule here on the Coast. Whatever happened to the highways department maintaining our roads? Are they too busy with private contracts to give us value for our tax dollars and keep our roads safe?
Traffic signs are obscured by greenery all over the Coast and accidents are inevitably going to occur - particularly with unsuspecting tourist traffic, which we seem to have plenty of this year.
Perhaps we should cancel the private contractors and go back to dedicated highway crews whose mandate was to keep our roads safe.
