Editor: Now that summer is coming to a close we reflect on how tourists and COVID-19 have affected permanent residents who live and work on the Coast. It’s not been an easy year, especially for the older and more vulnerable community.

Editor: We’ve live in Sandy Hook for 40 years. We’ve seen many changes over the years, most for the better. One change has been terrible. Short-term vacation rentals are impacting almost every street in this community.

Editor: This letter was sent to B.C. Premier John Horgan. I am writing as a worried citizen of Sechelt who, like you and Dr.

Editor: As a recipient of home care service for the last three years, I would like to applaud them all. I suffered a stroke which has left me dependent for meal prep and personal care. Never have I been made to feel a burden.

Editor: What inspiring event started 40 years ago? The Terry Fox Run did! The event has been part of my life and that of my family – dogs included – ever since.

Editor: Many thanks to Egmont fire and rescue and Madeira Park ambulance for their prompt response and professionalism last Saturday at Ruby Lake. Thanks also to our neighbour Chris, first to the scene, for his assistance.

Finally, there is a clear signal from the District of Sechelt that it’s ready to get serious about revisiting the rules for short-term rentals. The job is long overdue.

It’s usually a red flag when a column opens with the dictionary definition of something, but I’m going to run this red flag up the pole to see who salutes.
