100 years ago, Canada was encouraging immigration, but only certain immigrants were welcome

'No one seems to even want to think or talk about the air quality we must endure - as thousands of cars drive Langdale to Powell River year, after year, after year, polluting us humans living along the Sunshine Coast of B.C.'

We are seeing lack of access to primary care, lack of access to the latest in cancer care, delays in surgery for orthopedic and cancer surgery.

Editor: The following is an edited version of a letter addressed to Powell River-Sunshine Coast MLA Nicholas Simons and shared with Coast Reporter. January 2024 will mark the beginning of a new era in long-term care on the Lower Sunshine Coast (LSC).

'I spent years in logging camps on the west coast of Vancouver Island in the ‘60s.  When summer dry season hit, and the government and meteorological reports went out, we left the woods. Period.'

'To successfully accomplish this, all local stakeholders both professional and volunteers along with us everyday folks from one end of the spectrum to the other need to come together, leaving their personal agendas at the door, working collaboratively for what is truly best for everyone and everything on the Coast over the next 20 to 25 years.'

You can be a billionaire and you will still get that whole amount.

'We can learn to look after our forests sustainably and appreciate clearings and broad leaf trees, which let light in during the winter and give cool shade in the summer. We can control burn so nobody loses their house. '
