I've had this weekend circled in red on my calendar for quite awhile. It's a big weekend for many people on the Coast. Gibsons comes alive with the annual Sea Cavalcade festival.

Accidents happen. But at B.C. Ferries, accidents have been happening lately at a rate that makes me nervous. We have a fleet of ancient, rusty boats.

There's a disturbing trend starting on the Coast. And no, this has nothing to do with mining or logging. It's vandalism.In recent weeks, schools and the municipal hall in Gibsons have both been victims of late night attacks.

Congratulations to all the accomplished young people who appear in the graduation section in today's Coast Reporter.I'm sure after 18 or so years of taking advice from all and sundry, the last thing you would like is more.

Concerned residents packed into the Sechelt Seniors' Activity Centre Wednesday night trying to raise awareness of Pan Pacific's mine operations. Many views were shared, with the majority in the crowd against Pan Pacific.

If you build it, they will come. Okay, we know it's a shameless plug from the movie Field of Dreams, but it speaks quite well to a major achievement here on the Coast.

How will you celebrate Canada Day? If you're anything like me, you'll go to a party or take your kids to a parade and take in the festivities around town before relaxing with friends and toasting our land.

Tomorrow is D-Day on the Coast - Decision Day to see if this community really wants new recreation facilities. The debate is over. Now it's time to get out and vote.

Congratulations to MLA Nicholas Simons on his appointment to the position of opposition critic for tourism, sports and the arts. This portfolio is a great fit with Simons' interests and expertise.

It's been an amazing month here on the Coast. The good people of this community have opened up their hearts and their pocket books during several charity events. The spirit of giving is simply astounding.
