Ellie Gerbrandt of Roberts Creek has been chosen once again to represent Canada at the 2020 American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) Youth World Cup in the Netherlands.

On Oct. 12, Gibsons’ Lily Riggs competed at the 2019 Provincial Powerlifting Championships in New Westminster. Riggs placed second overall in the junior 72kg category. This was her first provincial competition in the junior age category.

Mixed martial arts fighter Mike Brackett was in Coquitlam on Saturday, Nov. 16, battling Phil Lauzon for the 175-pound welterweight amateur division belt.

The Elphinstone Secondary senior girls volleyball team won’t be proceeding to provincials this year after losing at the zone playoffs.

The Elphinstone Senior Girls Volleyball team came close to becoming North Shore league champions last Wednesday, losing to B.C.

Ice has been installed at the curling rink in Gibsons and activities are in full swing, including a nascent program that introduces young people to the game.

Volunteers are being asked to help maintain trails and assist visitors for the upcoming Dakota Ridge winter season.

Minor League Baseball

The 20th annual Fraser Valley Hunt Opening Meet is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 9 at the private residence of Lynn Putland and Kenan MacKenzie in Roberts Creek. Hosting the event is the Sunshine Coast Equestrian Club.
