Sunshine Coast Boxing Club head coach Tariq Abdulrahman has been elected as First Director of Boxing BC. In his new role, he will be tasked with ensuring that the association functions properly and will work with the membership to improve it.

At 18 years of age, Rebecca Douglas is the youngest active curler in the Gibsons Curling Club leagues this year. You may recognize her. She’s also a lifeguard at the Gibsons and Sechelt pools.

Dakota Ridge is expected to open Dec. 18, as long as the conditions are favourable, though as of last Saturday there was no snow at the higher altitude recreation area.

On Dec. 5, at the Gibsons Elementary School gym, the Special Olympics Gibsons basketball team enjoyed a game against their most worthy opponents, the Gibsons Fire Department.

Fifteen of the Sunshine Coast Skating Club STAR and Junior Academy skaters attended the Jingle Blades Competition in Chilliwack, Nov. 22 to 24.

A Christmas Co-ed Hockey Fundraiser is scheduled for Dec. 7 at Gibsons Arena to raise funds for food banks on the Coast. Hosted by the Rusty Cranks seniors’ hockey club and the Women’s Hockey League, the fun event starts at 7 p.m.
