The Suncoast Racquet Club (SRC) is launching a very special endowment fund in memory of club player Paul John Meyer, who sadly passed away recently.
Instigated by his parents, June and Ralph, and his bereaved wife, Janet, the family are grateful that the Paul Meyer Youth Tennis Endowment Fund, to be administered by the SRC board, will be a fitting legacy to Paul.
This has been started with a significant donation from Paul’s parents and the SRC welcomes further donations from anyone or any company who may wish to donate and support this youth-focused local cause.
The fund aims to support young, promising talent amongst the many youth being introduced to tennis through the SRC’s interaction with local schools on the Sunshine Coast. The aim is to encourage youngsters to take up and continue playing, whilst making tennis accessible to more young people. It will help boost younger club activity and keep this unique sports facility alive and well in our community.
The SRC is inviting people to submit the names of promising students to the SRC board secretary. One young player, Lucian Enns, has just completed a remarkable tour of tennis camps in Spain and Little Mo Internationals in Florida with the support of the SRC. With this special endowment fund, the SRC now hopes to identify and promote more young tennis players in this way.
In addition, the SRC Club coach will monitor and identify youngsters who show promise and put them forward for an annual Paul Meyer Scholarship. Students who have the potential, but are unable to afford lessons, will be given priority.
