Knights of Columbus’ David Short and Sunshine Coast Special Olympics’ Pat Stuart join to promote the Walkathon, accompanied by athletes Bruce Stuart and Chris Walker.

The Knights of Columbus and the Sunshine Coast Special Olympics are teaming up to raise funds to help athletes attend the Summer Games in Kamloops this summer. With a goal of $10,000, they are organizing a Walkathon on Sunday, April 30, in Porpoise Bay Provincial Park, Sechelt, where they anticipate over 100 participants, and considerable community interest.

The course is an easy afternoon walk along the river bank and through the Park, and will not be difficult for young or old. Challenges will be available for those who want to perform for speed, but it is primarily a chance to have a gentle walk in the woods while raising funds to help our Special Olympics athletes.

Twenty-two athletes will be participating in the Summer Games in 10-pin bowling, swimming, track and field, golf, rhythmic gymnastics, power lifting, bocce, basketball, soccer and softball.

Anyone wishing to participate in the Walkathon can obtain pledge forms form Pat Stuart at the Sunshine Shack in the Gibsons Recreation Centre, or make a donation by registering online at http://sobcsunshinecoast.kintera.org.

The Walkathon registration starts at 1:30 on Sunday, April 30 and the walk will commence at 2 p.m. Further information can be obtained from David Short at 604-886-8228.
