Two Sunshine Coast physicians, Dr. Ted Krickan and Dr. Paul Dhillon, have returned home following Team Canada’s historic performance at the 2025 World Medical Football Championships in Dublin, Ireland. Canada placed 10th overall, marking their highest finish to date in the international tournament that brings together physician teams from more than 20 countries.
Dr. Ted Krickan played in all six matches of the tournament, representing Canada against strong teams including South Korea, Australia, and four other nations. His consistent presence on the field was a key part of Canada’s defensive line throughout the group and knockout stages.
Team captain and founder Dr. Paul Dhillon returned from a mid-tournament injury sustained during the match against Australia to lead Canada in their final placement match. This year’s championship also marked Dr. Dhillon’s 10th year as president of Team Canada Medical Football, an organization he started in 2015.
“Playing again in the final match after an injury was a privilege,” said Dr. Dhillon. “But even more meaningful was seeing how far this team has come in a decade—from a single email and a dream to placing top ten in the world.” Both Ted and Paul are excited to return now to the competitive men’s league on the Coast where they both play for Halfmoon Bay FC.
