The girls’ soccer rep team played their season-opener in beautiful Whalley/Surrey and beat the SurDel Strikers 5-1, with Goals from Ingrid Hansen, Alexis Muir, Pearl Deasey, Eleny Robson and Lucy Schick.

The girls get a bye next weekend – Sept. 18 – because the other team forfeited. Their next game is on Sept. 25 in South Surrey.

The Storm posted three shutouts in four games at the West Coast Cup in Maple Ridge on the Labour Day weekend.

The annual pre-season soccer tournament attracted several Sunshine Coast teams, and for the U18 girls it was the first opportunity to play together after a summer of practising as a new team.

Storm started the tournament in blistering fashion, beating a Surrey-Delta team 8-0 with Hollie Piepjohn named the game’s MVP. The day’s second game saw the Storm fall 4-1 to Squamish with Pearl Deasey the lone scorer for Storm and Lucy Schick named game MVP. Schick was named MVP again in the Storm’s third game, a 3-0 win on Sunday morning versus Royal City. Storm’s final game was against eventual division winners Coastal F.C. from Surrey. Coastal F.C. beat all other opposition but could not break down Storm’s resilient defence. Game MVP Charlotte Buhr’s heroics in goal secured a creditable 0-0 tie for the Sunshine Coast team.

The U18 Storm begins its season in Surrey this weekend with the first home game at Kinnikinnick on Sunday, Sept. 18, at 2:30 p.m.
